A remake of Alpha v12 in Godot 4 is on the making

Godot 4 is here. This project is not even close to finished. And I’m working on it from now on.

So… Why remaking the Alpha v12?

Well, the development of Alpha v5 and v12 was pretty much a few weeks of speed development to see where I can get in a given period of time. So a lot of things were simply cut off in order to finish a playable game at the day of release. As my game developing skills increase, I can get more things done in shorter periods. And now I have more time to focus on the game that I want this project to really be. As a starting point I want to focus on remaking Alpha v12 in Godot 4, and probably develop the rest of the game from there.

Alpha v12 is a short story within the universe (or world, or reality… or whatever you want to call it right now) in which this project takes place on, and it shows some of the rules and ways of such place. I felt, at the time of developing it, restricted in some ways because of the engine and because, of course, my continuous learning about the engine itself and the game development ways. But with Godot 4 stable and more developing experience, I think I can push Alpha v12 to what it should has been from the beginning.

A bit of context

Both published Alphas of this project were made in Godot 3, but I’ve been using Godot 4 since the the first Beta release, testing and learning about it. With the new rendering and GDScript 2.0 and many many other changes, game developing feels much more easier for me right now. And now that I know the basics I can get things done properly within the engine.

Like for the other Alphas released I’m starting with a good First Person Controller. Both for experimenting with Godot 4 and learning about it, and to have a good base that feels good to play with. Right now, the current FPC is much more better than the one used in both Alphas: better code and performance, more modularity and more mechanics coded. So I’m very close to have the good base I want to start remaking the current Alpha v12.

So, with the FPC done soon, I will remake other assets and after that I will put all the pieces together for a new Alpha v12 release made almost from scratch in Godot 4.
